Urethroplasty, Urethral Stenting, Urinary Infection Treatment in Jaipur

Urethoplastyis the open surgical treatment of the urethra. Whenever there is an injury or defect on the walls of urethra, then Urethoplasty is the gold standard for the treatment. The name Urethoplasty is the addition of two words –urethro (urethra) + plasty (fixing).

Why Urethoplasty it useful?

Urine reaches to the bladder via two tubes called ureters. This ureter tube may become obstructed due to any possible reason like kidney stones, tumors, blood clots, post- surgical swelling or infection.A ureteral stent is inserted in the ureter to restore the flow of urine. The ureteral stentsis highly beneficial for such patients which have severe kidney infection with diseased bladder. Also, the ureteral stents may be usefulafter urinary tract surgical procedure to work as a mold around which the wound may recover. As per the surgical procedure, the stent may remain in place for a short-term (days to week) or long-term (weeks to months) basis.

Preparation of treatment –

There are multiple diagnosis procedures which determines the level or ureteral obstruction –

  • Cystoscopy (a procedure in which a thin, tubular instrument is used to visualize the interior of the bladder).
  • Ultrasonography (an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sounds waves to visualize structures inside the body).
  • Computed tomography (an imaging technique that uses x rays to produce two-dimensional cross-sections on a viewing screen).
  • Pyelography (x rays taken of the urinary tract after a contrast dye has been injected into a vein or into the kidney, ureter, or bladder).

Before stenting, the doctor should thoroughly explain the procedure to the patient. No food or beverage is allowed after midnight before operation.

Aftercare

It is advisable to replace the stents after every six months to prevent any further complication.
